Unreal Engine 5 Tutorial Series: From Game Animation Sample to Indie Game Creation

This YouTube tutorial series documents an evolving Unreal Engine project, originally based on the Game Animation Sample provided by Epic Games. The project showcases fully functional animation systems commonly needed in games and serves as both an educational resource and a foundation for building your own creations.

Project Overview

This game project is primarily an experimental and learning exercise for myself. I believe that creating tutorial videos to teach others significantly enhances my own understanding of the subject matter. As a developer, I am also passionate about open-source technology and knowledge sharing. Based on the Game Animation Sample, I aim to explore its features step by step and build upon this foundation by adding more elements, such as additional Unreal Engine modules, gameplay mechanics, and 3D models.

My Contributions

In this series, I extend the base project by replacing the default avatar with my own Metahuman character, integrating it with the provided controller and animation set. This adaptation not only elevates the project’s visual fidelity but also serves as a steppingstone toward building my own indie game.

Purpose of the Series

Initially created for students in the Creative Coding class where I served as a TA, this series is designed for entry-level developers seeking to learn the fundamentals of Unreal Engine, animation systems, and game development workflows. The tutorials offer practical, step-by-step guidance that makes complex systems more accessible and bridges the gap between pre-built assets and personalized game creation.
